Workers Disagree Over Unpaid Salary Arrears In Ekiti

The Ekiti State government and the civil servants in the state are at war over unpaid salary arrears.
The workers on Thursday declared an indefinite strike to protest the non-payment of five months salary owed by the state government.

The Secretary of the joint union, Ayodeji Oladele, asked the government to abandon some projects it had embarked upon and pay workers’ salaries.
Reacting to the workers industrial action, Governor Ayodele Fayose asked them not to see strike as their last hope.

He said that his government was fully committed to improving the welfare of workers in the state, but has been confronted with the dwindling revenue and debt profile of Ekiti State.

The economic challenges confronting Nigeria has taken its tolls on all sectors and this has also hindered some states across the country from paying workers’ salaries.

This has led to labour unions embarking on industrial actions to express their grievances.
